If you are experiencing short battery life, here are some suggestions:

IF YOU ARE USING ALKALINE BATTERIES

  1. Confirm that the switch in the battery compartment is set for Alkaline.
  2. Make certain that you are starting with all new batteries. If any one of the three batteries is discharged, the TPT will shut down prematurely
  3. Use only name brand batteries - Some off brand batteries exhibit poor performance and will not provide the expected operating life.
  4. Do not store the batteries in the TPT. The TPT draws a small amount of power even when turned off which will slowly discharge the batteries.
  5. Make certain the batteries have a relatively recent date code. The shelf life of alkaline batteries is limited and their capacity may be further reduced by storage at high temperatures. If the batteries are within a year or two of their expiration date, they may not provide full operating life.
  6. Consider the ambient temperature. For example, alkaline battery capacity is typically reduced by about 50% at 0 C. This will decrease operating life.
  7. If you are using TPTs with configuration CF0076-M2, M3 or M5, contact Telephonics for information on updating the TPT's software.

IF YOU ARE USING NiMH BATTERIES

  1. Confirm that the switch in the battery compartment is set for NiMH.
  2. Brand new NiMH batteries must be charged and discharged three to five times to permit them to reach full capacity. Prior to that, reduced operating life should be expected.
  3. When using a TruLink Charging station, always charge brand new NiMH batteries for at least 24 hours prior to use for best initial performance.
  4. Make certain that all three batteries in the TPT are fully charged before installation.
  5. Charge the batteries within a day or two of their intended use. Most NiMH batteries that are left on the shelf will self discharge over time.
  6. Replace the batteries if they have been in storage for more than one year. They may no longer be capable of being charged to full capacity.
  7. Employ only brand names NiMH batteries with a capacity of at least 2300mAh. NiMH batteries vary in quality and lower quality batteries may not meet their capacity specifications. This will impact operating life.
  8. If problems persist, determine if one battery is operating at reduced capacity due to age or quality problems. Replace the batteries.
  9. Battery capacity will be reduced over time. Due to load placed on the batteries by the TPT, users can expect about 70 to 80 charge/discharge cycles from a set of batteries.
