  • Telephonics Corporation awarded a $330M Contract for Delivery of 160 AN/APS-153 Multi-Mode Radar Systems for the U.S. Navy’s MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopter

Press Releases on April 25, 2012

  • Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE:GFF) announced today its Radar Systems Division has been awarded a multi-year, full-scale production contract valued in excess of $330M from Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors.

This contract is a follow on to a previously awarded multi-year contract and includes the delivery of 160 AN/APS-153 Multi-Mode Radar systems, spares and engineering support. A portion of the systems are designated for an Australian Foreign Military Sales contract. These systems will be integrated into the Lockheed Martin advanced mission avionics package and installed on the U.S. Navy’s MH-60R “Romeo” helicopter.

The AN/APS-153 radar is the successor to the AN/APS-147, and includes Automatic Radar Periscope Detection and Discrimination (ARPDD) capability. It was designed to meet the Navy’s demanding mission requirements, providing reliable maritime domain surveillance in all weather conditions, day or night. In addition to ARPDD, the radar’s other advanced features include small target detection, Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) imaging, and a unique, fully internally integrated, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogator capability which is readily upgradeable to include Modes 5 and S.

“The AN/APS-153 Multi-Mode Radar, with the advanced ARPDD mode, provides the U.S. Navy with an unprecedented capability to successfully perform their difficult and often dangerous missions. This highly capable system incorporates advanced features which will serve Naval Aviation well for many years to come”, said Joseph J. Battaglia, President of Telephonics Corporation. “We are proud to continue to support Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy and to be an important part of Team Seahawk”.
