  • Telephonics Corporation receives AN/UPX-44 nomenclature from USMC for G/ATOR Identification Friend or Foe Interrogator

Press Releases on January 26, 2010

  • Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Griffon Corporation (NYSE:GFF), announced today that they have received the AN/UPX-44 nomenclature assignment for the latest application of their Common Module IFF interrogator equipments. This nomenclature is specific and unique to the Telephonics’ IFF Interrogator. Telephonics was awarded an initial contract valued at $1.3M in May 2009 for the USMC G/ATOR mobile radar program. The AN/UPX-44 will be used on the USMC Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) transportable Radar system.

“The USMC G/ATOR, being built by Northrop Grumman for the USMC and equipped with the AN/UPX-44, will provide our war fighters with the most advanced performance available in Radar and IFF equipments today. The IFF product team clearly understands that only reliable equipment that operates in the most hostile war time environments will safeguard our war fighters,” explained Andy Webster, Sr. Director of Business Development at Telephonics. “The USMC currently plans to buy and deploy 81 G/ATOR systems which will be used to replace existing aging radars while meeting new, advanced mission requirements.”

The Telephonics’ AN/UPX-40, AN/UPX-43(V) AN/UPX-505(V) and AN/UPX-44 are part of the new All-Mode family of IFF Interrogators sharing a common modular design approach with multiple platforms for the USN, USAF, USMC and Canadian DND. These platforms include Airborne Early Warning, Rotary Wing, Fixed Wing, Ground Transportable, Ground Fixed, and Ship board applications.
